draconic

Many times we have found ourselves wanting suggestions and solutions for what lies in the future. Questions such as “will I find a job?”, “will I get married”, “what shall I learn?” and so many others haunt our minds. But, when was the last time we asked ourselves which is our foundation or our roots? What drives us on? What tasks must I fulfil in my lifetime?

In Astrology we study one’s personal horoscope in order to find his qualities, good or bad, his aptitudes, his desires, his motivations. For us astrologers the horoscope is the imprinting of our handy tools as personalities. But these tools cannot be effective unless we have a task or a mission.

This “mission” is illustrated by the Nodes of the Moon. The North Node is where we go to and the South Node is where we came from. The North Node (Head of the Dragon/Caput Draconis/Rahu) depicts the unknown, the goal we must achieve, the experience we have to acquire through situations or people. The South Node (Tail of Dragon/ Cauda Draconis/ Ketu) depicts what is already known, the goals achieved, the familiar situations, the familiar faces. The South Node shows us how we react when something goes wrong.

Karmic Astrology can help those who are interested in understanding this mission, explains why the planets are in their current position and gives advice on how this mission can be achieved. The Draconic Chart shows us the “why” of our particular mission, depicting the “picture” we hide inside us.

What is the Draconic Chart?
Draconic Astrology is the key to our inner self. The Draconic Chart is the tool we use to shed light on the multidimensional nature of our personalities, complementing Tropical Astrology in our ongoing quest to learn more about ourselves.

Our natal horoscope shows us the tools we have for coping up with the good or bad times of our lives. This is a simplistic approach, when all in life has a beginning and an end. But, either we like it or not, we are a continuity, and that is what we see in the Draconic Chart.

What do we mean with ‘continuity’? There are two approaches. One approach states we are the total of all genetic characteristics we have inherited and the second, the metaphysical one, states that we are the total of all past life experiences. Let’s analyse them.

Genetic science has proven that we are the “product” of all the genetic material we have inherited from our ancestors. In everyday life situations, we tell people that they look like their mother, grandfather, a distant aunt, or even the inclinations we may have because of our ancestors. Therefore, the already existing background information imprinted in our DNA, is daily enriched with our experiences and thus we pass it to future generations.

In Metaphysical terms, we are a continuity of the everlasting reincarnation cycles. The souls reincarnate so they can enrich themselves with new experiences until the moment the soul is ready to remove itself from this everlasting cycle. When a soul is reincarnated it is rewarded or punished accordingly.

The Draconic Chart has the same functionality in both Genetic and Metaphysical approaches. According to the first one, we can see things in a natal chart when the native sometimes fails to recognize himself in interpretation.

E.g A good friend of mine- a Cancerian woman- didn’t agree with her natal horoscope’s interpretation because her Cancer side wasn’t obvious (she wasn’t a Typical Cancerian mother). When we opened her Draconic chart and saw her Cancerian traits moved to Aries, then she understood why.

By its nature the Draconic Chart is fictional. To cast a Draconic chart we have to reposition the planets according to a simple mathematical formula. The aspects of the Draconic planets are the same with those in the natal chart.

The mathematical formula we use is this; we take the degree of the radical planet and we subtract the degree of the radical Moon’s North Node. In case of a negative number we add the number 360.

E.g Sun is at 20°22’ Leo, North Node is at 27°04’ Scorpio. That places the Draconic Sun at the 23°18’ Sagittarius.

The planets’ new position gives us the background of our experiences.  Then we do a synastry between natal and draconic charts. Those Draconic planets that are in an orb (max 1°) with the radical planets are very important.

In the Draconic chart the North Node is always at 0° Aries, the Kharma of all humanity. The meanings of signs, aspects and houses do not really change, though we do examine in which house the Draconic nodes are placed in the tropical horoscope.

Those aspects formed in the synastry are fully functional, though they function at a subconscious level.

Karmic relationships are formed when the Draconic Pluto makes a significant transit between two people’s synastry.

EPILOGUE
The Draconic chart is a valuable tool that helps us to find things we couldn’t see in the radix chart. Also, it can show us how much we have been influenced, by our background experiences in our development as personalities and as souls. One thing is certain - if we compare the tropical and draconic levels in a horoscope, we will find that certain life-themes will be indicated with great clarity. In general, I could say that the Draconic chart can help us to approach ourselves with a whole new perspective, and lead us into new paths of self consciousness.
